Fluxion: A Shopping Mall Inspired by Ant Hills

Creating a Unique and Exotic Shopping Experience

After being inspired by the movie "Empire Of The Ants," designer Zhipeng Kang conceptualized Fluxion, a shopping mall that mimics the structure of an anthill. By incorporating the intricate tunnels and interconnectedness of an ant empire, Kang aimed to create a distinctive and immersive shopping experience for customers.

Many shopping malls today have become commercialized and lack uniqueness. Kang's vision for Fluxion was to provide customers with something different. The mall's design concept is inspired by the graceful arcs and curves found in anthills. The entire visual mall is shaped as a curve, resembling the organic flow of an anthill. This fluid and dynamic space offers a unique and exotic experience as customers walk through the tunnels.

The realization of Fluxion involved the use of highly malleable and smooth artificial stone. By binding the stone to the arched ceiling and floor, the space takes on a dynamic and flowing appearance. Integrated design technology (IDT) was employed to ensure the accuracy of the stone molding, resulting in a seamless and visually stunning design.

With dimensions of 21500 mm x 135800 mm x 5500 mm, Fluxion stands as a testament to Kang's innovative approach to mall design. The keywords associated with this design, including Fluxion, curve, arc, smooth, ant hills, and streamline, capture the essence of the mall's unique aesthetic.

As customers walk through Fluxion, they will feel as if they are passing through a mysterious channel. The flowing lines guide their path, allowing them to seamlessly transition from one space to another. The design creates a sense of natural and smooth movement, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Fluxion was designed in December 2013 and is located in QuanZhou, China. Kang's research into ant hills and their rational spatial distribution played a crucial role in the development of this design. By incorporating the wisdom of ants into human spatial structures, Fluxion showcases the importance of rational spatial function in architectural design.

One of the main challenges faced during the creation of Fluxion was the construction of the numerous surface models, such as the curved walls. However, the use of artificial stones proved to be a solution, as they can easily mold irregular surfaces. The integration of design technology ensured the accurate representation of the flowing space, resulting in a visually stunning and cohesive design.

Fluxion is a testament to the unique and rational architectural structure of ant hills. By drawing inspiration from these natural wonders, Kang has created a shopping mall that is both artistic and well-constructed. The design has received recognition and acclaim, winning the Silver A' Design Award in 2014 for its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.

Experience the wonder of Fluxion, where art, architecture, and nature converge to create an unforgettable shopping experience.
